The Issue: Abortion in Minnesota
Defunding Planned Parenthood
With Planned Parenthood being the nation's largest abortion provider receiving taxpayer funds nationally and from the State of Minnesota, Minnesotans are calling to end of taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood at the federal and state levels.
Planned Parenthood has been plagued with scandals over the years, and the latest scandal--trafficking in the body parts of aborted babies--revealed by undercover videos has already prompted 5 states to end some taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood, and at least 12 states have launched investigations into Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood touts itself as a vital service to women's healthcare, when in reality Planned Parenthood does not provide many vital healthcare services including prenatal care and mammograms.
There are plenty of other women's health care centers who do not participate in the barbaric practices of abortion or trafficking in aborted baby body parts who are far more deserving of taxpayer funding than Planned Parenthood. Check out the info graph comparing the services Planned Parenthood actually provides with those services offered at federally qualified health care centers.
Planned Parenthood Funding Nationally
Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider, performing well over 300,000 abortions every year, and also receives over $500 Million in taxpayer money nationwide annually, which constitutes nearly 50% of its revenue.
Planned Parenthood Funding in Minnesota
Planned Parenthood receives your taxpayer dollars here in Minnesota in the form of federal, state, and local grants totaling over $4.5 Million every year. Not only that, Planned Parenthood in Minnesota also receives direct subsidies for abortions performed on low income women. In Minnesota alone, Planned Parenthood performs an average of at least 11 abortions per day, many of which are performed at their abortion megaplex in St. Paul--the nation's third largest abortion facility.
With Planned Parenthood's scandalous history and its inability to provide comprehensive healthcare to women, the Minnesota taxpayer dollars Planned Parenthood receives every year would be far better spent on other clinics offering more complete care for women, without trying to use women to meet abortion quotas.
Planned Parenthood Plagued with Scandal
Touted as "a commonsense approach to women's health and well-being for the last 100 years," Planned Parenthood has been mired in secrecy and scandal from its inception in 1916 with increasing scandals over the past decade.
Let's explore what Planned Parenthood has really done for women over the past 100 years:
Racism & Eugenics
Margaret Sanger, who founded Planned Parenthood in 1916, is a well-documented racist and supporter of eugenics. She wanted to "improve" the human population by discouraging the "unfit" from reproducing. The "unfit," to Sanger, included the poor, disabled, "feeble-minded," African Americans, and more.
Sex-Selection Abortion
In the 1960's, it was Planned Parenthood's head of research who first urged biologists to find a way to determine a child's sex in-utero. It was thought that sex-selective abortions would be a way to control world population.
Since 2012, Planned Parenthood has been caught by Live Action's undercover videos encouraging sex-selection abortions.
So much for "women's health" from an organization that purposes to abort baby girls simply because they are female.
Statutory Rape Cover-ups
Live Action has caught multiple Planned Parenthood clinics willing to cover up incidences of statutory rape. In 2014, a Denver Planned Parenthood was sued for failing to report stepfather abuse of a 13-year-old girl by the girl's mother. The stepfather actually brought the young girl to the clinic, forcing her to have an abortion and birth control injection. The abuse continued for 2 more months after that Planned Parenthood visit before the girl's mother found out.
Dangerous Sex Advice to Young Girls
Again, Live Action caught multiple Planned Parenthood clinics encouraging young girls to engage in dangerous sex acts, including asphyxiation and beating one another, as long as the acts were deemed "consensual."
One of the Planned Parenthood clinics caught in the sting included a Planned Parenthood in Eden Prairie, Minnesota in 2014. The clinic worker informed the 15-year-old girl that whipping and inflicting pain, among other dangerous acts, are completely normal as long as "consensual." The worker then "helpfully" offered the girl advice on where to obtain adult sex toys.
Aiding in Sex Trafficking
A New Jersey Planned Parenthood manager was fired in 2011 after an undercover Live Action sting caught her aiding sex traffickers in how to "get around the system," including instructing them to lie about the young girls' ages to avoid reporting requirements.
Again, so much for women's health.
Infanticide
In 2013, a lobbyist for Planned Parenthood testified against a Florida Infants Born Alive Protection Act, stating that it was the choice of the "woman, family and physician" whether the infant who survived an abortion should be allowed to live.
By God's grace, a Born Alive Infants Protection Act authored by Minnesota Representative Abigail Whelan (Anoka, district 35A) passed into law as part of a larger Health bill in 2014. Under this law, infants born alive after a botched abortion are required to be given medical care.
History of Abusing Taxpayer Money
As we know, Planned Parenthood affiliates receive a significant amount of taxpayer funding at the federal and state levels.
Multiple Planned Parenthood affiliates have been caught over-billing government healthcare programs, including Medicaid and Title X, and/or misusing taxpayer funds.

Trafficking in the Body Parts of Aborted Babies
In the latest undercover expose, top Planned Parenthood officials have been caught trafficking in aborted baby body parts.
Though these videos are graphic in nature and extremely difficult to watch, we encourage all who can to watch them and share them.
An organization engaged in the barbaric and illegal trafficking of human baby parts should no longer receive federal funding.

Investigation into Trafficking Profits
In the latest undercover expose, top Planned Parenthood officials have been caught trafficking aborted baby body parts and selling them to procurement companies for profit - a violation of federal law.
The likelihood of such federal violations is drawing national attention. Members of Congress have taken action to investigate. On April 20th, 2016, Rep. Marsha Blackburn led a Congressional House panel investigation to address aborted fetal tissue profitability. While payment for reasonable costs, ie.: “transportation...preservation...storage etc.” is legal, the 1993 National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act also clearly states that profit accrued from fetal tissue sale is illegal. Prior to the hearing, concern was raised over alarmingly high-priced transaction costs between abortion clinics and procurement companies, and the fact that several of the latter have blatantly been advertising their services as “financially profitable”.
As a result of the videos and House investigation, there is a growing concensus that federal law has not only been violated, but that clinics and procurement companies have aided and abetted one another in doing so.
Ending Taxpayer Funding of Abortion
Abortion is big business supported by the government here in Minnesota. In 1995, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled in the Doe v. Gomez decision that abortion is an absolute "right" under the Minnesota Constitution. The Court even ruled that abortion is so much of a right in Minnesota that Minnesota taxpayers have to fund elective abortions for women who can't afford them (via Minnesota Medicaid). This has created an extreme abortion policy for Minnesota, making abortion more of a "right" in Minnesota than under federal law.
In fact, Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life reports that since courts started forcing Minnesotans to fund abortion-on-demand, we have paid over $2.5 Million for abortions, footing the bill for over 1/3 of the state's abortions.
It's time for Minnesota's extreme abortion-funding policy under the Court's Doe v. Gomez decision to be overturned. Most Minnesotans strongly disagree with abortion for moral or religious reasons in the first place--forcing them to fund it is unacceptable. Even if abortion is a "choice" under current law, Minnesotans should be able to choose NOT to pay for it for someone else.
Licensing & Regulating the Abortion Industry in Minnesota
Typically, Minnesota has a government that loves to create licensing & regulation regimes for its business facilities. The state believes that government control over facilities increases the likelihood of client safety and high standards.
Sadly though, the state routinely rejects licensing & regulating abortion facilities. The hypocrisy is incredible.
For example, Minnesota has very strict and thorough regulations for outpatient surgical facilities. Abortion facilities also perform invasive abortion procedures on women, many of those them more invasive than those procedures performed at the outpatient surgical facilities, yet government officials continue to reject legislation that would require abortion facilities to meet the same basic standards as outpatient surgical centers.
Check out the important info graph below that highlights the hypocrisy in the licensing & regulation regimes supported by state government:
If government officials truly care about the health & safety of women, they would have no problem ensuring that abortion facilities meet the same health and safety standards as outpatient surgical centers. Be in contact with your legislators; urge them to reject hypocrisy and support legislation requiring abortion facilities to meet the same standards as outpatient surgical facilities.
