Legalizing mobile sports betting would legalize a sportsbook in every adult Minnesotan's phone. Our state does not need a wealth transfer of millions of Minnesotans' dollars to out-of-state corporations built on fraud.

Overview

The passage of mobile sports betting would legalize access to a sportsbook in the pocket of every adult Minnesotan.

Large and profitable online gambling companies track users’ activity, prompting betting on not only the outcome of the game but also on details such as every coin toss and play of the game. The companies target the most addicted to their platforms, often young men or economically struggling individuals, drawing most of the company revenue from these customers by sending them cash to continue placing bets and even awarding certain customers a VIP host.

Longitudinal research has found that between 10-13% of sports gamblers are observed to be net winners. The house wins. When mobile sports gambling is legalized, a direct link between this kind of gambling and depletion of family investments has been measured, amongst other devastating societal effects.

Minnesota Family Council is part of a bipartisan coalition with legislators from diverse districts and constituencies coming together to oppose the legalization of this industry. Our state does not need a wealth transfer of millions of Minnesotans' dollars to out-of-state corporations built on fraud.
