Foster Youth Bill of Rights
Requiring foster families to support a foster child’s sex-rejection (so-called ‘gender identity’), likely excluding Christians from foster care
Overview
Minnesota's foster system needs reform, as indicated by recent reports that children have died while under foster family care.
Although aspects of this bill seek to mitigate that issue, this bill creates other problems. The language creates requirements on how foster families must care for foster youth, including requiring foster families to affirm and support a foster youth's so-called "gender identity." Under this bill, foster youth have a requirement for access to so-called "gender affirming care" as well as a right to access communities which support and affirm the youth's "gender identity." This requirement would likely exclude Christian families and others who share similar concerns from fostering youth.
