Counseling Censorship Law Creation of a Cause of Action
Expanding Minnesota's counseling censorship law.
Overview
In 2023, the Minnesota legislature outlawed minors' and vulnerable adults' access to counseling which affirms sexed identity and/or affirms heterosexual orientation. According to the 2023 law, self-directed counseling to accept one's own sex or address unwanted same sex attraction is illegal in Minnesota.
Only one week after the U.S. Supreme Court said kids should be able to talk about their feelings with a counselor in Chiles v. Salazar, the Minnesota Senate heard bills that would expand Minnesota's counseling censorship law to create a cause of action for counselors who help kids accept their sex.
