Counseling Censorship Law Expansion - Outlawing Insurance Coverage

Active

Outlawing insurance coverage of counseling of youth and vulnerable adults which affirms sexed identity and/or affirms heterosexual orientation.

Overview

In 2023, the Minnesota legislature outlawed minors' and vulnerable adults' access to counseling which affirms sexed identity and/or affirms heterosexual orientation. According to the 2023 law, self-directed counseling to accept one's own sex or address unwanted same sex attraction is illegal in Minnesota.

Only one week after the U.S. Supreme Court said kids should be able to talk about their feelings with a counselor in Chiles v. Salazar, the Minnesota Senate heard bills that would expand Minnesota's counseling censorship law - SF4707 would outlaw insurance from coverage of such counseling.
